Periodontal Research Continues to Support Efficacy and Show Additional Benefits

In 2018, Forward Science hosted a DSO Leadership hygiene summit where the company was asked to innovate current treatment options available to the dental industry. After years of R&D and market research, Forward Science received FDA clearance for PerioStōm on December 22, 2022. PerioStōm is an FDA cleared, non-drug, innovative treatment, powered by chitosan microspheres to protect oral mucosa following iatrogenic procedures such as scaling and root planing.

In 2024, Forward Science partnered with Sage Dental Group and other privately owned dental practices to evaluate the novel treatment after scaling and root planing (SRP). Subjects were evaluated for pocket depth, bleeding on probing, inflammation and Oral Hygiene Index. SRP was performed and then PerioStōm chitosan powder was deposited in the pocket. A 30-day follow-up was performed, and the assessments were recorded.
