HOUSTON - Jan. 10, 2019 - AppleWhite Dental Partners has recently joined forces with Forward Science, the manufacturer of OralID®. Forward Science's flagship product, OralID, is an oral cancer screening device that aids in visualization of oral mucosal abnormalities, such as cancer and pre-cancer. In addition to its partnership with Forward Science, AppleWhite Dental became a provider of the ID For Life™ Program in order to promote screening and public awareness of oral cancer. AppleWhite Dental offices now offer OralID enhanced oral cancer screenings to new and current patients during their patients' scheduled appointments.
Unfortunately, oral cancer is not a rare disease; however, as the statistics of other cancers decline, the rates of oral cancer continue to increase. This year, approximately 52,000 individuals will be diagnosed with oral cancer in the United States alone. Due to late stage discovery, one American dies every hour from oral cancer.
AppleWhite Dental utilizes OralID in efforts to visualize abnormalities. Currently, 63% of oral cancers are found in late stages (stage III, IV), resulting in a 5-year survival rate of less than 50%. Finding these abnormalities in much earlier stages can increase the 5-year survival rate up to 80-90%.
Megan Lewis, RDH at AppleWhite Dental office in Madison, Wisconsin, expressed that "Forward Science has made a significant difference in the way our practice screens for oral cancer. I have been a registered dental hygienist for nine years and I have never used a product that empowered me the way the OralID does. As a healthcare provider my main concern is the overall health and well-being of my patients."
Furthermore, Joann Martens, DDS who practices at Applewhite Dental's Waunakee, Wisconsin location, stated that she and her team "are proud to be able to offer this enhanced technology to their patients. Oral cancer rates are rising and early detection is key to a successful outcome." Dr. Martens further conveyed that "her team is committed to doing their part in combatting this life threatening, disfiguring disease."
Forward Science believes in working with those who are dedicated to making an impact to change the negative trends of oral cancer. We are excited about our new partnership with AppleWhite Dental Partners, as they share the same goals.
